Normal Lymph Node
When an aspirate is obtained from a healthy lymph node, the dominant cell population should be mature lymphocytes. At low magnification, note the high concentration of cells in the sample, as well as clear, unstained regions representing aspirated perinodal adipose tissue. Mature lymphocytes are characterized by the presence of a very small amount of cytoplasm, making it difficult, or even impossible, to observe the cytoplasm (red arrow, microphotograph on the right).
